Shutter (Rollladen)

A shutter serves as an additional finish at openings, like doors or windows. It is fixed from the outside in front of the respective element. The shutter resembles a rolling gate. It consists of the following components:

Roll casing

The roll casing consists of flexibly connected roll rods. It is made of synthetic material, aluminium, wood, steel, stainless steel and polyurethane. The roll casing is the protecting element of the roll finish.

Guide rails

They do the lateral guiding of the roll casing. They furthermore conduct away forces that affect the casing from the outside, like e.g. wind pressure. Guide rails are U-shaped and consist of wood, steel or synthetic material.

Shutter shaft

This is the part on which the roll casing is wound up. The shaft used frequently is the octagonal bar steel shaft. Since the steel shafts are hollow, tubular motors can be used in which the shaft is inserted.

Depending on the version a shutter can serve different functions.

Thermal insulation

A shutter can reduce the heat loss at windows or at doors to about 30%. The thermal insulation mainly depends on the material and on the shape or thickness of the roll casing.

Also in summer the shutter can protect your rooms from heating up, because it screens the solar radiation of the sun.

Sound insulation

A shutter can also provide sound insulation. However, the level of sound insulation depends on the material of the roll casing and on the distance between roll casing and window pane. That should be considered.
